Pittsford Girls, Numerous Individuals Qualify For XC State Meet

The Pittsford Wildcats girls cross country team continued their successful season last Saturday, finishing third at the Region 33 Championship at Hudson and qualifying for next Saturday's Division 4 State Championship Meet at Michigan International Speedway.

Ruth Letherer led the way for the Wildcats with a fourth place finish, in 20:23, to earn all-region honors.  Elyssa Kafer (11th, 21:14), Morgan Lennox (13th, 21:17), Amber Osborn (24th, 22:37), Emily Poling (28th, 22:52), and Katie Saunders (29th, 23:15) also earned all-region honors for Pittsford, who won the SCAA Championship on October 18th.

Fighting Tigers Have Day of Personal Bests at Lakeview Invite

The Battle Creek St. Philip Fighting Tigers saw 11 of their 12 runners set either season or personal best times at this Saturday's Lakeview Invite according to head coach Kevin Long.

The St. Phil girls, who finished fifth overall in the Division II race, were led by Charlotte Long, who finished seventh overall (21:35). Also finishing well for the Tigers were Rachel Gallagher (13th 22:02), Gracie Curtis (31st, 24:31), Abriana Burrill (37th, 24:55), and Madeline Sweeney (40th, 26:03).

The boys, who also finished fifth overall as a team, got a strong performance from lead runner Nicholas Newton, who finished ninth overall (18:13).  Also competing for the Tigers were John Sweeney (15th, 18:59), Tyler Searls (26th, 19:58), Ethan Rutherford (33rd, 20:11), William Lantinga (35th, 20:49), Rich Yacovoni (37th, 20:58), and Daniel Yates (42nd, 23:40).

The Tigers will next take the course today, for an SCAA Jamboree hosted by the Bellevue Broncos.

Albaugh, Calvert Lead Colts at Nike/Holly Invite

Shaley Albaugh and Joel Calvert netted top five finishes to lead the Hillsdale Academy Colts at last Saturday's prestigious Nike/Holly Invite.

Albaugh ran the course in 19:42 (2nd), while Calvert finished it in 17:00 (3rd) as the Colts' girls and boys finished 5th and 8th overall as teams, respectively.

Other finishers for the Academy girls include Christina Craig (15th, 23:03), Meg Ryan (21st, 23:25), Taylor Hannel ( 53rd, 27:55), and Sigrid Kiledal (62nd, 29:58).  On the boys side, Dillon Murray finished 31st (18:57), Joey Allen finished 40th (19:26), Sabeek Pradhan finished 60th (20:19), and Anders Kiledal finished 75th (21:23).

The Colts will compete next in today's SCAA Jamboree hosted by Bellevue.

Hillsdale Academy Boys Capture Hudson XC Invite Crown

The defending SCAA champion Hillsdale Academy Colts paced the field at Tuesday's Early Season Invitational in Hudson, winning the title by a wide margin. 

The Colts scored just 43 points to easily beat their nearest competition, the Adrian-Madison Spartans, who finished second with 70 points.  Host school Hudson finished third with 71.

Senior and returning all-conference and all-state runner Joel Calvert was the top competitor for the Academy, running the course in 17:12 to finish 2nd overall.  Juniors Hunter (6th place, 18:24) and Dillon (8th, 18:53) Murray also had top 10 finishes for the Colts.

Joey Allen finished 20th (20:11), Sabeek Pradhan finished 24th (20:37), and Anders Kiledal finished 38th (22:41) to round out the Academy's finishers.

On the girls' side, the Academy did not field a full team, but Shaley Albaugh captured the individual meet title with a time of 19:51.  Christina Craig was 8th (24:13), Meg Ryan was 10th (24:25), and Taylor Hannel was 30th (28:06) for the Colts, who will host the first SCAA Jamboree next Wednesday at Owen Park in Hillsdale.

St. Phil's Opens Cross Country Season at Catholic Invite

The Battle Creek St. Philip Fighting Tigers opened their Cross Country season last Saturday at the always tough Michigan Catholic Invitational in DeWitt.

Charlotte Long led the way for the Tigers' girls team, finishing in 43rd place in a time of 23:10, while Abriana Burill was 76th in a time of 26:26. Gracie Curtis finished in 82nd place and 27:39 to round out the team, who did not place with only three members.

Jay Luoma led the way for the St. Phil's boys team with a 25th place finish (18:33).  Caleb Andrews was 42nd (19:18), Daniel Riggs was 49th (19:32), Nicholas Newton was 64th (20:03), and John Sweeney was 72nd (20:31) for the Tigers, who finished 12th out of 14 teams. 

St. Phil's will compete next at the Battle Creek All-City Meet on September 7th.
